DR. DAVID CASTILLEJOS


Dr. David Castillejos opened his ophthalmology practice, in April 1992 and co-founded Castillejos Eye Institute in 1997. He specializes in eye diseases and surgery. He is also the medical director of Premier Medical Center.

He has been featured in textbooks and specialty journals and has been a speaker in national and international meetings. He is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese

He is one of the few Ophthalmologist in the world certified in all the three countries in North America. Dr. Castillejos is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmologia.

His secret to success has been his passion to serve his patients.

He holds several patents and has been involved extensively in research to advance the care of ophthalmological patients, particularly in the field of Vitreous Hemorrhage, Diabetic Retinopathy and Intraocular lenses having been a world pioneer in the simultaneous correction for near and distance vision with phakic intraocular lenses.

Honors:

Awarded a letter of congratulations granted for the positive impact of the social and medical work accomplished for social services completed in Los Reyes, Michoacan (1981); Awarded several years the Robins Prize granted to the most outstanding student in the National School of Medicine; awarded “The Most Outstanding Students of Mexico” certificate presented by the President of Mexico; awarded a letter from the Dean of National University of Mexico during the four years of University Studies; he was awarded the Gabino Barrera Medal, the highest honor to the University Merit.

Education:

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Medical School at the University of Mexico, Mexico City; completed his Straight Medical YR1 at the University of Toronto, Canada (1987); completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Montreal, Canada where he was awarded Second Prize for research work (1990); completed his Retina Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada (1991); completed his Fellowship in Refractive Surgery at the Instituto Mexicano de Cirugia Ambulatoria, Tijuana, Mexico (1997)

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
