MACULAR DEGENERATION


Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of central vision impairment after 50 years of age and is classified as geographic, or dry or neovascular, or wet.

Dry Macular Degeneration is a slow progressive disease and treatment is still under investigation. 80% of cases are dry type of Macular Degeneration.

Wet Macular Degeneration is the development of abnormal vessels under the macular area, advances fast and can lead to loss of central vision even though it is not the most common type, it is by far the most severe, wet type degeneration is responsible for 90% of Legal Blindness.

  • Hereditary

The main Symptoms are Metamorphopsia (distortion), decreased visual acuity, scotoma, photopsia, difficulty of dark adaptation; you will require a lot of light to see.
