Refractive surgery is a method for correcting or improving your vision, if you have problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia.

Refractive errors occur when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina. The length of the eyeball (longer or shorter) changes in the shape of the cornea, or aging of the lens can cause refractive errors.
THE MOST COMMON REFRACTIVE ERRORS ARE:
- Myopia or nearsightedness: The objects up close appear clearly, while objects far away appear blurry. It occurs because light comes to focus in front of the retina instead of on the retina.
- With astigmatism, the images appear blurry and stretched out for both far and near, because the eye does not focus light evenly onto the retina.
- Hyperopia or farsightedness: Distant objects can be seen more clearly than objects that are near. However, young people may not notice any problems with their vision because they can compensate. People with a High hyperopia; can have blurry vision for objects near or far.
- Presbyopia is the aging eye. It loses ability to focus, to see near objects.
REFRACTIVE ERRORS CAN BE CORRECTED WITH EYEGLASSES, CONTACT LENSES, OR REFRACTIVE SURGERY, INCLUDING LASIK OR INTRA-OCULAR LENSES.
